Zaton Bay
A charming and picturesque 2 km long bay, destination for anyone wanting a swim on pebbly beach or rocky crags, or those seeking sunshine or shade under old pine trees, walks along the shore, or small cozy restaurants by the sea where you can savor Dubrovnik or Dalmatian specialties.
There are three settlements scattered along the irregular shoreline of the bay:
Zaton Veliki, Zaton Mali and Stikovica.
A natural sight is the freshwater source (spring) Vrelo, located at the bottom of the bay whose waters once moved the mills. Zaton bay is quiet peaceful oases with pebbly
beaches, crystal clear Adriatic sea, surrounded with rich Mediterranean vegetation and just 10km away from Dubrovnik historical center.
The intriguing renaissance summer manors of former Dubrovnik aristocratic families are a historical sights that make Zaton bay recognizable as a Dubrovnik summer manor region.
Cultural Events
Due to closeness of Dubrovnik (8-10km) almost all cultural and artistic events of Zaton bay villages are held in Dubrovnik. Still it is important to propound local celebration of saint Stephan in August as numerous concerts and exhibitions held mostly during summer months in July and August.
Historical monuments
Zaton has recognizable picture of Dubrovnik pastoral region. The Renaissance summer manors of former Dubrovnik aristocracies are a historical sight that makes Zaton bay recognizable as a Dubrovnik summer manor region. Family Guchetich, Menchetich, Sorkochevich, Saraka i Lukarevich build their summer cottages in Zaton bay. Today they are witnesses of rich history of this area and vain of the bay which was always ideal destination for vacation...
